The Content-Gap Article Engine is a tool I built to do one specific job: run a proper content gap analysis on a target keyword, work out what the top-ranking pages are missing, and turn that into an article draft — without the guesswork or the invented statistics that AI writing tools are prone to.
It’s aimed at businesses who want content that actually adds something to the conversation, rather than another rewrite of what’s already on page one. You work directly with me, Simon McCullagh, on SEO work across strategy, technical fixes and content — this tool exists because I kept running into the same problem with clients: AI drafts that covered the same ground as everything already ranking. There’s no account manager and no outsourced writing team in between.
What content gap analysis is
A content gap analysis is the process of comparing what’s currently ranking in the SERP for a keyword against what you plan to publish, so you can see what’s missing, outdated, or thinner than it should be. Done properly, it looks at more than just topics covered — it checks whether the ranking pages actually match search intent, what questions they leave unanswered, and where there’s room for genuine information gain rather than repetition.
The point isn’t to write a longer article for the sake of it. It’s to work out what a searcher still won’t know after reading the top results, and address that directly.
How the engine works

Need an article that beats what ranks?
Priced per article, researched and written fresh for each order.
Agency? Ask about white-label to resell it under your own brand.
Here’s what happens at each point in the diagram:
- Research — the tool pulls the current top-ranking pages for your target keyword and analyses their structure, coverage and depth.
- Gap identification — it compares those pages against your planned article to flag specific content gaps: missing subtopics, unanswered questions, weak or absent entities, and areas where you could offer real information gain. In practice this means checking each ranking page’s headings and sub-headings against the target keyword’s likely questions, and noting where an entity or subtopic appears on some competing pages but not others — those inconsistencies are usually where the gap sits.
- Human-approved outline — before any writing happens, I review the outline myself. Nothing goes to draft stage without a person checking it makes sense for your business and your audience.
- Article — once the outline is approved, the full article is written to match your brand voice, based on examples or guidance you provide, with internal links placed naturally.
This sits alongside my other AI SEO tools — if you’re mapping out a whole content strategy rather than a single article, my topical authority graph tool is built for planning how topics and entities connect across a site.
No invented facts
One of the biggest risks with AI-written content is confident-sounding nonsense — invented statistics, made-up quotes, or claims that sound authoritative but aren’t backed by anything real. That’s bad for accuracy, and it’s widely considered to undermine the trust signals Google groups under E-E-A-T.
The engine is built to flag unverified claims rather than fabricate them. If a fact, figure or source can’t be confirmed, it gets marked for you to check or supply, instead of being smoothed over with plausible-sounding filler. Combined with human review at the outline stage, this keeps the article grounded in what can actually be verified — your own data, your own experience, or properly sourced information — rather than what an AI model assumes is probably true.
What you get
You receive a full article as an editable Google Docs file, written to match your brand voice rather than a generic AI tone. Brand voice is captured from whatever you can give me — existing published pages, a short style brief covering tone and sentence length, or specific words and phrases you want to avoid — rather than guessed at from scratch. Because it’s a standard Google Doc, you can comment, edit or hand it to your own team before it goes anywhere near your site — nothing is locked into a proprietary platform. I don’t yet have client-approved sample outputs to share publicly, so for now this is described rather than shown.
The outline you approved earlier in the process is included, so you can see exactly which content gaps were identified and how the final article addresses them.
Each article is priced per order and researched and written fresh, never templated or recycled. Ask me directly for a quote.
FAQs
What is a content gap analysis?
A comparison of what ranks for a keyword against what you plan to publish. In practice, genuine information gain means something a reader can’t get from the current top results: a worked example from your own business, a comparison nobody else has made, or a question the ranking pages skip.
Is AI-written content bad for SEO?
The ranking risk isn’t the AI itself — it’s publishing content that’s generic or indistinguishable from competitors, which gives search engines no reason to prefer it. A human-reviewed outline and fact-check step reduces that risk before anything is published.
How do you stop AI from inventing facts?
Unverified claims are flagged rather than written around. If a figure can’t be confirmed, it stays marked in the draft, and the article either goes without it or waits for you to supply the real number. It isn’t replaced with a plausible guess.
