If you want to know whether ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or Perplexity actually recommend your business, the only reliable way is to ask them the questions a real buyer would ask, then check the answers. That’s what LLM Mentions does. It’s an AI visibility tracking tool I built to generate buyer-intent prompts for your industry and location, run them live across the four main AI assistants, and turn the results into a visibility score you can act on.
I’m Simon McCullagh, and I run SEO Services NI on my own from Newry, Northern Ireland, working with businesses across NI and the wider UK. There’s no account manager and no outsourced team — you deal with me directly, from the first prompt test through to the recommendations.
Why AI visibility matters
More buyers are starting their research with an AI assistant instead of a Google search. When someone asks ChatGPT or Perplexity for “the best [service] in [town]”, the assistant gives a short list of names — and if your business isn’t one of them, you’ve lost that enquiry before your website was ever viewed.
This is different from traditional keyword rankings. AI visibility depends on whether a model has enough reliable information about your business — reviews, citations, structured content, third-party mentions — to confidently recommend you. LLM visibility and AI search visibility are really two names for the same underlying question: does the model know you exist, and does it trust you enough to say so?
Brand mentions inside AI answers are the clearest signal of this. Ranking well in Google doesn’t guarantee a mention in AI answers, so it’s worth checking both rather than assuming one follows from the other.
How the tracker works

Does AI recommend your business?
One-off report, in tiers of 8, 16 or 20 checks.
Agency? Ask about white-label to resell it under your own brand.
Steps 1 to 3 in the diagram work like this:
- Buyer-intent prompts. The tool generates a set of prompts that mirror how real customers phrase requests to an AI assistant — not generic keyword phrases, but the kind of question someone types when they’re ready to buy or enquire.
- Live checks across four platforms. Those prompts are run against ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity in real time, so the results reflect current model behaviour rather than a cached or simulated response.
- A visibility score from actual mention data. Each response is checked for whether your business is mentioned, cited, or recommended. The score is calculated from that mention data — it isn’t a guess or an index built from search volume.
Because the checks are live, the same prompt set can be re-run later to see whether your AI visibility has moved, which is useful if you’ve since worked on AI search optimisation or added more structured content to your site.
See who AI recommends instead
Knowing you weren’t mentioned is only half the answer. The more useful output is who was recommended in your place. LLM Mentions records the named competitors appearing across the ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity responses to the same buyer-intent prompts, so you can see the pattern — the same two or three names turning up repeatedly is a strong signal of where the AI assistants currently place their trust.
What you get
At the end of the check you get two things: a visibility score built from actual mentions across the four platforms, and a set of recommendations delivered as a Google Doc. The recommendations are platform-specific and based on web research into why those specific competitors are being recommended, such as review volume, third-party directory presence or the depth of their published content.
It’s a one-off report, available in tiers of 8, 16 or 20 checks.
I don’t promise that acting on the recommendations will get your business mentioned by a given date, and I won’t guarantee rankings or results — AI models change their outputs as they’re updated, sometimes without notice. What the report gives you is a clear, evidenced starting point rather than a vague sense that “AI SEO” might help.
FAQs
How do I check if ChatGPT recommends my business?
Ask ChatGPT the kind of question a customer would use — “best [service] near [location]” or “who should I use for [need]” — and see if your business appears. Doing this properly means testing multiple phrasings, not just one question, and repeating it over time since answers can change. LLM Mentions automates this by generating a realistic set of buyer-intent prompts and running them live rather than relying on a single manual check.
What is an AI visibility score?
It’s a score built from how often your business is mentioned, cited or recommended across live checks on ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity for a set of realistic buyer prompts. It reflects actual mention data from those platforms rather than an estimate based on your website’s SEO metrics alone.
How can I improve my visibility in AI answers?
The specifics depend on what the AI responses show is already working for competitors in your market — which is why the recommendations in the Google Doc are platform-specific rather than generic. Common levers include stronger third-party citations, clearer structured content, and a more complete topical authority graph around your core services, rather than isolated keyword pages.
